Everyone wants to make the most of their time in the sun, but many are also aware that too much sun exposure can cause skin damage and speed up the signs of ageing. Our skin care expert gives you ten top tips to keep yourself looking young in the sun. - The shade of a sun hat will shield the delicate skin of your face from UV rays. It will also protect your hair from becoming dry and brittle and protect your scalp from burning. Choose a hat with SPF and one with a large brim if you want to keep your shoulders and décolletage out of the sun too.
- If you have sensitive skin avoid chemical UV filters and choose a product based on mineral UV filters which are physical blockers such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.
- Look for a sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection to ensure you have protection against the ageing effects of UVA.
- For added anti-ageing benefits look out for products that contains anti-oxidant ingredients such as Vitamins A, C and E.
- Reapply your sunscreen often, at least every two hours.
- Sunglasses not only protect you eyes from UV damage but also provide an extra sun shield to the skin around your delicate eye area. They will also stop you from squinting which can cause unattractive tan lines around the eyes.
- Avoid the midday sun, relax and enjoy a healthy lunch with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables
- Keep hydrated, drink plenty of water.
- Don’t forget about your hands. You hands are exposed to as much sun as your face, day in day out, throughout the year, so they also need protecting. Try a light and non-greasy sunscreen with added moisturisers and reapply regularly.
- After a day in the sun treat the skin on your face to a nourishing night cream and eye cream and slather your body in a rich after sun lotion containing nourishing oils like jojoba and sweet almond.
